This creature is called Stella la guardiana del mar. Which is Spanish for Stella the Sea Guardian. Stella is a God’s underwater pet. Its purpose is to serve as a guardian to the underwater world. It helps protects a hidden underwater civilisation and will eat anyone or anything who is a threat to its territory. It is covered in underwater plant life which are covered creating its own micro-habitat for smaller creatures. There is a secret gateway that leads to the water underworld where shipwrecks lay. This creature’s horn is used to protect and fight off any predators. The eyes provide an extortionary side views whilst its echo location further helps its locality.
When creating and designing my mythological creature we researched different creatures. Here I examined certain features of each animal to influence the development of my own creature. I specifically researched different oceanic and artic animals as this was an area I felt most connected too. When researching, I discovered that lots of the water animals have a long skinny shape body which helped me decided what sort of shape body I would use. Some features that effected my final design was the different size head and how big the eyes needed to be in proportion to the body. This made the design harder to create without examining the different shapes and features of the creature to ensure proportions would look balanced. A couple major impacts that were made when researching my creature was the killer whale. It’s shape and movement made me realise what sort of form the body would be. Another major impact while researching was the blue whale. This animal has a strong sense of awareness and can travel far with its impeccable large fins, which is also one of the most important features of this creature. I was inspired to use found objects such as leaves to further create a ‘living’ texture. Overall outcome was a success, and I am happy how the creatures finished product came to life.
